The NCSSO has completed it's investigation of the area, and we have been cleared to lift the lockdown at all locations.

Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,

The safety and security of our students and staff are our highest priorities. I am writing to inform you that J.G. Johnson Elementary, Pahrump Valley High School (PVHS), Mt. Charleston Elementary, and Pathways Innovative Education have all been placed on a precautionary LOCKDOWN protocol at the request of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office (NCSSO).

The Sheriff’s Office requested this protocol while addressing an incident report. Please be assured that this situation is ongoing, but all students and staff are safe and secure inside their respective school buildings.

During a Lockdown procedure, regular classroom activities pause, all exterior and interior doors are locked, and hallway traffic is restricted so emergency response personnel can effectively manage the surrounding neighborhood. No entry or exit from any of the affected campuses is permitted at this time. Please do not attempt to travel to any of the school sites, as access is strictly restricted for everyone's safety.

We are in constant communication with law enforcement and will send an update as soon as the Sheriff's Office clears the area and lifts the protocol. Thank you for your patience, trust, and cooperation as we keep our schools safe.

Sincerely,
School Administration & District Leadership

And the Winner Is...

If you purchased raffle tickets for the Gabbs quilt fundraiser, the winner is Leila Horn, who is a long time resident of Gabbs. Her family puchased several tickets for her because of her long history with the community and school.

Leila rasied four children in Gabbs, and all are graduates of Gabbs High school. In 1978 her family also hosted an exchange student from Mexico who also graduated. She worked at the first cafeteria in the school and then at the local magnesium mine, which is among the oldest operating mines in the world.

She finished her work years as a Nye County Municipal Judge and retired.

She always says, "Learn something everyday and it will be a good day!!!"

With her community history, she'll cherish her new quilt from the students of Gabbs.

Subject: UPDATE: Round Mountain MHS Safety Inspection Complete
Dear Round Mountain Families,

The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. I am pleased to follow up on my earlier message and inform you that the Middle/High School building has been cleared for re-entry.

All students are safe. Following a comprehensive inspection by our supplier and maintenance personnel, no propane leak was detected. As an added measure of safety, all propane sources have been disabled, and a district HVAC specialist is arriving to perform a secondary inspection.

Parents were notified of the initial building clearance earlier today. During the inspection, students were kept safely under constant supervision in the gym and on the elementary playground, where they were provided lunch.
Students are now returning to their classrooms, and we will continue with the remainder of the school day as scheduled. Thank you for your patience and for your trust in our safety protocols.

Alert Update
Subject: UPDATE: Amargosa Schools Safety Protocol Lifted

Dear Amargosa Families,

I am writing to provide an update regarding the Stay-Put protocol at Amargosa Schools. Working closely with the Sheriff’s Office, we have been informed that the protocol can now be lifted.

All students and staff are safe. Parents and guardians were previously notified of the Stay-Put, and we want to assure you that there is no danger to our school facilities. Law enforcement is aware of the individual's location, which is far from our school site.

We are returning to our normal school operations and will allow known visitors on campus. As an added measure of caution for the remainder of the afternoon, we will have adults accompany students to the restroom.

Thank you for your patience and for trusting us with the safety of your children.

Subject: Important Safety Update regarding Amargosa Schools
Dear Amargosa Families,
The safety of our students and staff is our absolute priority. I am writing to inform you that, at the request of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, Amargosa Schools has initiated a Stay-Put protocol.

All students and staff are safe and accounted for. Parents and guardians are being notified that this protocol is currently in effect to ensure the campus remains secure.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently pursuing a fugitive following an incident in Beatty. While there have been no sightings of concern at our school, we have implemented this protocol as a precaution. A "Stay-Put" means that students remain in their classrooms and movement around the campus is limited to keep everyone secure.

At this time, no one is permitted to enter or exit the school building. We ask that you please do not come to the school to pick up your child, as this could interfere with safety procedures and law enforcement activity.
We will provide a follow-up notification as soon as the situation is resolved and the protocol is lifted.

Subject: Important Safety Notification from Round Mountain Schools
Dear Round Mountain Families,
The safety of our students is our highest priority. I am writing to inform you that the Middle/High School building was cleared this morning due to a possible propane leak.
Please be assured that all students are safe and accounted for. Parents and guardians are currently being notified of this incident.
Our staff acted immediately to ensure student safety. The propane supplier and maintenance personnel were notified, and the propane tanks have been shut off. During practice drills, your student learned that a building clearance or evacuation means students follow instructions to exit to a designated safe area for attendance.
We are monitoring the situation closely and will send another notification as soon as the building is cleared for re-entry. We ask that you please monitor the Nye County School District website or Facebook page for additional updates rather than calling the school, so that our phone lines remain open for emergency coordination.
Thank you for your patience and support.
