Build social skills…one compliment at a time
Young children are naturally self-centered. But you can help your child grow out of this and learn to appreciate other people. Encourage your child to compliment at least one person at school each day. Explain that compliments should be sincere, so your child will have to look for positive things that friends and teachers do. Each evening, ask who your child complimented and why.

Share a simple system for remembering reading
Studying with the R-C-R-C method can help children remember what they read. Teach your elementary schooler these four steps: 1. Read. Have your child read aloud. 2. Cover. Your child should put a piece of paper over the passage. 3. Remember. Ask your child to explain the reading. (If this is a struggle, try a shorter passage.) 4. Check. Your child should reread the material to verify recall accuracy.

There is a power outage at PVHS. Due to the power outage, phones are not working. With parent/guardian permission, students will be dismissed if they have transportation. Parent(s)/guardian(s) may pick up students from the office if they choose. Buses will transport students at our normal dismissal time of 2:20PM for those students who remain at school. Valley Electric expects to have the power restored within an hour. Thank you.

Make space and time for learning
Today is National Clean-Off-Your-Desk Day. Teens waste a lot of learning time looking for misplaced items. Whether your teen studies at a desk or the kitchen table, today is the day to sort through papers, supplies and materials. Your teen can throw away any junk and file returned tests and assignments in subject folders. Encourage your student not to keep anything in the study area that is distracting or doesn't help with school assignments.
