Manse - Stay-Put Procedure
Manse is enacting a Stay-Put procedure to allow for emergency personnel clear access to a student in medical distress. The parents have been notified.
------------
During practice drills, your student learned this means any outside activities are moved inside and no students or staff are allowed outside the building. All exterior doors are locked. No one is allowed to enter the building except for response personnel. Classroom instruction continues with limited hallway traffic. Please monitor the Nye County School District Website or Facebook page for additional information as it becomes available.

Share smart moves for before, during and after tests
The things your child does before, during and after tests can improve academic achievement. Before the test, have your child review frequently for short periods of time when feeling most alert. During the test, your child should read the directions carefully and save time to double-check work. When your child gets the test back, review it together and discuss strengths and weaknesses. Then, have your child save the test for future studying.

Invest in your teen's future by teaching money management
Young people are bombarded with advertising designed to make them want to "buy now." To keep your teen from wasting money, show how to manage it responsibly. Have your teen keep a record of money received, and all money spent. If your teen gets an allowance, agree on what each of you will pay for, and expect your student to save a percentage of all income for long-term goals.

Discuss plagiarism's perils with your teen
Plagiarism is copying information or original ideas directly from another source without giving credit. Explain to your student that copying word for word is cheating. So is passing someone else's ideas off as your own. Both can result in a failing grade. Offer a reminder to restate information from sources in your teen’s own words. And if your teen wants to discuss an idea or quote a sentence word for word, it is necessary to give credit to the author.

A few extra minutes can make a big difference
Often, children with poor study habits don't change them because they don't believe that a little extra effort can go a long way. To get the idea across, try having your child study one subject for 15 minutes longer than usual each day. Your student might use the time to rework math problems from class or make up a sample test, for example. Then, watch how this small extra effort affects progress and grades in that subject.

Final Update Regarding the Lockdown at PVHS
Students were overheard during first lunch organizing a fight, and a gun was mentioned. Another student reported the discussion to staff.
The school was locked down about 11:15 under the guidance of the NCSO.
All involved students were found and searched. No fight took place, no weapons were found, and no students were injured. The lockdown was lifted about 1:30 and those students who had not eaten were allowed to go to lunch. All students were given a five minute bathroom break.
