This Thursday: Nye County School District Invites Gabbs Parents and Guardians to Leadership Roundtable
The Nye County School District (NCSD) is pleased to invite parents and guardians of Gabbs K-12 students to a special Leadership Roundtable discussion on Thursday, August 15th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Roundtable will take place on campus and will be followed by the regular school board meeting at 5:30 PM.

A bus was in an accident in Pahrump on 160 near the Pour House. No students were on board. An alternate bus was sent to cover the route. We do not expect any alterations to bus drop off times. The driver was not injured.

The Nye County School District is excited to announce the first day of school for the 2024-2025 academic year. Because of the difference in day counts between the four and five day calendars, we have different calendars for each schedule.

How should families go about setting realistic academic goals for their teens? Consider the following tips: Is it your goal, or your teen's? Your teen should be personally invested in it. You should also consider how your student reacts to pressure. Some teens remain unfazed, while others crumple. Also remember that students change over time, and their goals can, too. Keep communicating with your teen to see if the goal fits.

Commercials are prime time for conversation
Don't let screen media shut down family conversations. Instead, use it to start them. "Half-hour" TV shows are typically 22 minutes of program and eight minutes of commercials. Use those eight minutes to ask your child to think critically about the program. Does your child think the characters and settings are realistic, or not? Does the plot make sense? What other choices could the characters have made?
